Tiabao Festival Filial Piety Memorial Archway

The Tiabao Festival Filial Piety Memorial Archway is located in Dachang Village, Tuopu Town, Shantou City. It was built in the eighth year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1743) under imperial decree by officials including Minister of War Ma Rulin, to honor Zheng, the wife of the Confucian scholar Lin Wenji, for her chastity and filial piety. The archway is constructed of granite, featuring four pillars, three bays, and three storeys. The front and back of the archway’s horizontal inscribed plaque are engraved in relief with eight regular script characters: “天褒节孝” (Tiabao Festival Filial Piety) and “奕世传芳” (Everlasting Legacy of Virtue) from left to right. The inscriptions on both sides share the same font size and are carved in intaglio regular script. Each character is 0.03 meters high and 0.04 meters wide. Below the “天褒节孝” horizontal plaque, there is also a 1.67-meter-long and 0.58-meter-wide horizontal commendatory plaque, with the text inscribed in intaglio regular script. The archway is currently well-preserved.
