Xia Ling Ancient Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Xia Ling Ancient Temple is located in Guanghua Wharf, Shantou, commonly known as the Mazu Temple. Before the establishment of Shantou Port, Xia Ling was a docking point for inland river merchant ships during the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as an entry and exit port to the sea. It was a bustling hub of people and commerce. Later, as sediment gradually extended toward the sea, commercial areas shifted eastward, leading to the construction of Shantou Port. Hence, there has long been a saying that “Xia Ling came before Shantou.” The Mazu Temple was originally a Tianfei Temple where people worshipped Mazu. It was first built in the second year of the Hongwu reign during the Ming Dynasty (1369), and has undergone multiple renovations and expansions. The current structure features a flush-gable roof with a four-pillar through-tenon beam frame, making it one of the rare surviving examples of Ming-style architecture in Shantou. Due to years of neglect, the roof and walls are damaged, but the framework remains intact, along with a stone gate plaque inscribed with “Xia Ling Ancient Temple,” carved during the Qing Dynasty. The site is currently used by Guanghua Primary School in Shantou.
