Former Site of the Shantou Transit Hub on the Secret Communication Line from the CPC Central Committee to the Central Soviet Area

The former site of the Shantou transit hub on the secret communication line from the CPC Central Committee to the Central Soviet Area is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

The former site of the Shantou transit hub on the secret communication line from the CPC Central Committee to the Central Soviet Area is located at No. 97 Haiping Road in the old urban area. Disguised as the “Huafu Electrical Materials Shop,” it was a crucial relay station on this confidential route over 80 years ago. It undertook the vital tasks of escorting important leaders, transporting military and civilian supplies, and conveying critical intelligence. It made indelible contributions to the safety and smooth operation of the entire secret communication line, as well as to China’s revolutionary cause, making it an extremely precious red heritage resource in Shantou.

The secret communication line from the CPC Central Committee to the Central Soviet Area was one of several national secret routes established by the CPC Central Committee’s Communications Bureau at the time, and it was the only one that remained undamaged. As a key relay hub, the Shantou transit station successfully completed the arduous mission of escorting over 200 revolutionary pioneers—including leaders such as Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Deng Xiaoping, Ye Jianying, and Chen Yun—through the Chaoshan region and safely into the Central Soviet Area from 1930 until just before the Red Army’s Long March in 1934. At the same time, it also faithfully carried out the honorable tasks of delivering supplies, transporting funds, and transmitting documents and intelligence. It played a significant and unique role in the victory of China’s revolutionary wars. In recent years, our city has initiated the restoration and preservation of the red communication station site at No. 97 Haiping Road as part of the conservation and revitalization of the Xiaoguangyuan Historic District. The site has been transformed into the Exhibition Hall of the Former Shantou Transit Hub on the Secret Communication Line from the CPC Central Committee to the Central Soviet Area. The exhibition hall presents the historical events and personal stories of the revolutionary period in a comprehensive and multi-dimensional way through various formats including text and image displays, physical exhibits, scene reconstructions, and light-and-shadow projections.
