Shantou Zoo

Shantou Zoo is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

Shantou Zoo is located next to the rockery in Zhongshan Park, Shantou City. Established in 1954, it is the only zoo in eastern Guangdong. In 2007, it underwent a comprehensive renovation and now has a completely renewed look. It currently houses rare animals including giraffes, white tigers, hippos, Siberian tigers, lions, leopards, black and white swans, and more, with over forty species and more than one hundred individuals in total. Facilities such as the Monkey Mountain, Red Panda House, and Bird Viewing Platform have been built, and there are also large-scale animal performances, making it a favorite visiting and entertainment destination for citizens, especially children. The amphibian exhibit, constructed in 2009 next to the zoo, introduces rare amphibious animals such as crocodiles, sea turtles, pythons, and lizards, along with sea lion performances, further enriching the zoo’s animal collection.
