Bashang Grassland is located in Fengning Manchu Autonomous County, Hebei Province, directly north of Beijing, making it the nearest natural grassland to the city. The region features a continental monsoon plateau climate, with long winters, cool and pleasant summers free of intense heat, and an average July temperature of 24°C. With lush water and grass, breathtaking scenery, distinct seasons, and ever-changing skies, it serves as an ideal destination for tourism, leisure, summer retreat, and vacation.

This legacy has left behind numerous palatial ruins from the Liao, Jin, Yuan, and Qing dynasties, as well as ancient battlefield sites, making the area rich in historical and cultural heritage. It has also drawn the attention of film and television artists — over 200 episodes of TV dramas and films have been shot here, including CCTV’s "Five Thousand Years of Chinese Civilization," "The Princess with the Bell," "Crossing the Chishui River Four Times," "The Legendary Swordsman" (starring Adam Cheng), "The Emperor and the Assassin" (starring Zhang Fengyi and Gong Li), "Princess Huanzhu," and "Kangxi Dynasty" (starring Chen Daoming).

The renowned director Zhang Yimou shot his 1998 film "The Road Home" entirely on location in Bashang Grassland. The stunning natural environment and the simple, heartfelt local culture captivated the acclaimed filmmaker. The perfect blend of Bashang’s natural beauty and the genuine performances by the cast, coupled with meticulous production, earned the film the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival.
