With the arrival of the peak summer of 2015, the Yudaokou Grassland and Forest 4A-level Scenic Area officially opened to the public.
The Yudaokou Grassland and Forest Scenic Area is located in the Bashang region of Weichang, Chengde City, Hebei Province, and is a subdivision of the national scenic area—Chengde Mountain Resort and its Outlying Temples. The scenic area contains 700,000 mu of pristine grassland, 200,000 mu of wetlands, 500,000 mu of natural secondary forest, 21 natural freshwater lakes, 47 springs (mostly mineral springs), and 13 rivers. It is also one of the sources of the Luan River. The area hosts 659 species of plants from 50 families, over 100 species of wild animals, dozens of types of mountain delicacies, and various Chinese herbal medicines, showcasing typical biodiversity. The seasons here are distinct: in March, the green grass is lush and flowers bloom everywhere; in the height of summer, the landscape is picturesque with shimmering lakes and rolling hills; by October’s golden autumn, mountains are ablaze with red foliage and wild fruits are fragrant; in winter, snow blankets the land and trees are covered in crystal-like frost.
Bashang Grassland
Upon entering Yudaokou, the 700,000 mu of pristine grassland unfolds before your eyes. Grazing sheep, galloping horses, low-hanging clouds, and meandering rivers. Whatever catches your gaze, the scenery plays freely across the vast grassland with the wind, while distant songs echo through the air. Spend ample time wandering the grassland without having to rack your brain about work. As the sky and earth merge into one, facing such beauty, all you need to do is focus on what’s in front of you—the rest is taken care of by the scenery that has already blossomed.
