Beitou’s most Christmassy Shibaixi MRT Station: Four illuminated zones sparkle in the alleys

Every December, the streets of Beitou are always dazzling, with four illuminated zones near Shibaixi MRT Station: Fuxing Christmas Park in Lane 61, Ziqiang Street, Beitou District; Yongxin Green Space along Shibaixi Road and Tienmu West Road, heading toward Xingyi Road; Christmas Lane in Jiqing Community in Lane 15, Alley 71, Section 1, Shibaixi Road; and Lixian Christmas Path in Section 7, Chengde Road, heading toward Beitou. Everywhere you can see colorful lights, sleighs, reindeer, snowflakes, snowmen, and other festive light installations, as well as lively neon lights, which have also attracted many people to take photos, exclaiming “So Christmassy!”

The tradition of lighting up the 16-meter-tall Fuxing Star Christmas Tree in Fuxing Village originated from the creativity of current village chief Tsai Liu-chi. Fuxing Simple Park was originally an abandoned public plot of land. After becoming village chief, Tsai fought tirelessly with the city government to establish a community park, which was completed in 2004, becoming a small but beautiful community park.

This year, the Taipei City Government promoted the governance policy of “Open Government, Civic Participation,” fully opening up civic involvement in municipal development. Beitou District completed its first ‘Christmas Reindeer Installation Art’ at Fuxing Simple Park through a civic deliberation process and joint dialogue with residents.Christmas Reindeer Installation Art, which launched a series of exciting programs alongside the Fuxing Star lighting ceremony.

The “Christmas Lane” in Jiqing Village is decorated on a “household” basis. Every December, residents spontaneously begin decorating their own homes, often starting the design and creation of new decorations or installations months in advance. There’s also an unspoken agreement among neighbors to start the lighting in mid-December each year and keep it going until the Lantern Festival the following year.

The Lixian Christmas Path in Section 7, Chengde Road, is about 700 meters long, stretching from the intersection of Shijian Street to the intersection of Jili Street. It hides cute, seasonal light installations such as snowmen, sleighs, and reindeer, always attracting many children to stop and admire.

From Section 2, Shibaixi Road, in front of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, along the way to Wufu Temple and Yongxin Green Space in front of Xingyi Road, a strong Christmas atmosphere is present, with warmth spreading throughout every corner of Beitou.
