Chunhao Pavilion

Introduction

Chunhao Pavilion is located southeast of the Ten Thousand Trees Garden in the Mountain Resort. It was built in the 20th year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1755). The pavilion was where the emperor came to admire the beautiful scenery of spring. The “three springs” refer to the numerous begonias planted throughout the pavilion. Both Emperor Qianlong and Emperor Jiaqing composed poems in praise of the view. In recent years, Chunhao Pavilion has been restored. It faces south and is situated on a north-south axis. The entrance hall has three bays, and inside is a traditional courtyard; the main hall is five bays wide and three bays deep, with a plaque inscribed with the Qianlong Emperor’s calligraphy reading “Flower-Laced Sunset Peaks.” There are three-bay side halls on the east and west, and behind the main hall stands a pavilion called “Nest of Emerald Green.” Towering ancient pines fill the courtyard, while the fragrance of begonias fills the air, refreshing the senses. The pavilion is surrounded by lush trees, with red beams and green tiles creating a delightful scene.
