Twin Towers Mountain is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a cultural tourism site.

The Twin Towers Mountain Scenic Area is located within Shuangluan District of Chengde City, ten kilometers southwest of the world-famous Chengde Mountain Resort. Covering a total area of 3,000 hectares, it is the largest natural scenic attraction in the Chengde urban area. Twin Towers Mountain is one of Chengde’s famed peaks, featuring picturesque surroundings where the Luanhe River meanders eastward from the back of the mountain. The hills are covered with abundant flora, and at the foot of the mountain there were once scenic spots such as stone horses, stone benches, and stone caves. The mountain range is uniquely beautiful with striking rock formations, and it has now been developed into a tourist destination.

Twin Towers Mountain is remarkable for its wondrous mountains, waters, forests, rocks, pagodas, and caves—nature’s master craftsmanship has created an extraordinary landscape. Over 1,300 years ago, the Khitan people built two ancient pagodas atop the Twin Towers peaks, adding a mysterious allure to the entire scenic area. The area features beautiful valleys, rushing streams, rugged rocks, birdsong, and floral scents. Emperors Kangxi, Qianlong, and Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty, along with numerous prominent civil and military officials, visited here multiple times, leaving behind numerous historical traces.

The scenic area enjoys convenient transportation. The Beijing-Chengde Highway leads directly to the mountain’s base, and it is just ten kilometers from Chengde Railway Station. Multiple city bus routes provide direct access from downtown.

The Twin Towers Mountain Sightseeing Cable Car starts from the entrance square of the Twin Towers Mountain Administration Plaza, passes by the base of the Twin Towers, and goes straight up to another famous scenic spot in the area, the “Ape Man Rock.” The total length of the cableway is 800 meters, with an elevation difference of 88 meters. The cable car runs through key attractions of the scenic area, allowing for a more relaxing, comfortable, and comprehensive visit.

Long-Distance Passenger Transport

Chengde’s road network has expanded to over 6,000 kilometers. With the Beijing-Chengde Tourist Highway, Chengwei Highway, National Highways 101, 111, 112, and Chengpiao Highway as its main arteries, the road transport system connects Chengde with Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, and other regions. Within the city, every village is accessible by road, making travel very convenient.

At Chengde’s Long-Distance Bus Terminal, there are daily long-distance buses to nearby provinces and cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, and Zhangjiakou. Additionally, the Chengde West Bus Station and North Bus Station operate frequent scheduled buses to various counties and districts within the city.

Self-Driving

Starting from downtown, drive straight along West Avenue, pass through Guangrenling Tunnel to exit the city, go through the Sanchakou intersection to the Silk Factory, then turn left onto the road between the Silk Factory and Twin Towers Mountain to arrive. The whole journey is about 15 kilometers.

Special Tips

When visiting Twin Towers Mountain, you can choose to hike up on foot or take the cable car. You can also climb the ladder next to the Twin Towers to view the mysterious peaks, or head to the go-kart track for some fun. Moreover, the newly built Diaogou Scenic Area is adjacent to Twin Towers Mountain, which you might also want to explore.
