The park’s vegetation belongs to the warm temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest. The forests are dense, with a rich variety of species and extremely abundant resources. There are 1,870 species of higher plants, including 10 listed as nationally protected, among which there are 178 rare wild flowers. Wuling Mountain has long been known as the “Mountain of Medicine,” with 903 species of Chinese medicinal plants. Due to its high elevation and dense forests, the area boasts rich animal resources, with 161 species of birds and mammals, including 2 under first-class national protection and 12 under second-class national protection. It marks the northernmost natural habitat of macaques.

Highlights

Wuling Mountain boasts abundant natural resources and a superior natural environment. Its water sources flow eastward into the Panjiakou Reservoir and westward into the Miyun Reservoir. The scenic area lies in the convergence zone of southern and northern air currents, enjoying plentiful rainfall and a cool climate, with an average annual temperature of 7.6°C and a maximum summer temperature of 28°C.

Wuling Mountain is the green jewel on the Beijing-Chengde tourist route. In addition to its rich flora and fauna, it offers breathtaking natural scenery and a long history. As a forbidden imperial geomantic site during the Qing Dynasty, it remained sealed off for over 260 years. With its enchanting landscapes and intact natural ecosystem, Wuling Mountain is honored as the “Number One Mountain East of Beijing.” Within the park, transportation is available in two forms: group-chartered vehicles for full-park tours or shuttle buses running in sections. Shuttle stops are located at Zhonggu Yard, Immortal Tower, Lotus Pond, and Longtan Parking Lot, with scheduled departures. The routes include Zhonggu Yard – Immortal Tower – Lotus Pond, and Summit – Lotus Pond – Longtan. Visitors can plan their optimal itinerary based on the schedules and routes posted at the stops.

Introduction

Wuling Mountain Scenic Area is located in the northwest of Xinglong County, Chengde City, surrounded by five major cities: Beijing, Tianjin, Chengde, Tangshan, and Qinhuangdao, making it highly accessible. As the main peak of the Yanshan Mountain Range, Wuling Mountain stands at an elevation of 2,118 meters. The park covers a total area of 14,400 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 76.2%. It is both a national nature reserve and a provincial forest park. Most peaks within the park are over 1,500 meters above sea level. Major attractions include Immortal Tower, Lotus Pond, Crooked Peach Peak, Seven-Plate Well, Longtan Waterfall, and Wuling Character Stone.
