Xi’an Wharf Pumping Station

The Xi’an Wharf Pumping Station is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhuhai City.

The Xi’an Wharf Pumping Station is located on the north side of Xi’an Wharf in Lianzhou Town, Doumen District, Zhuhai City, covering a total area of 22,320 square meters. The construction of the station began in January 1977. In December 1978, the prototype of a horizontal axial-flow water pump was developed. It was installed and commissioned in May 1979 and officially put into use in September 1979. Designed to drain water within two days following a 10-year flood event, it has a drainage area of 38,000 mu, a discharge flow rate of 36.7 m³/s (with a head of 3 m), and is the only large-diameter horizontal axial-flow pumping station still in operation in China. It is also one of the largest single-unit electric drainage stations in Guangdong Province and the largest electric drainage project in Zhuhai City. From its completion until December 20, 2003, the station operated for a total of 1,457.7 hours. Over the past 30-plus years, it has played a major role in local flood control and disaster reduction, improving agricultural production conditions, and ensuring the safety of local people’s lives and property. It has been hailed by local residents as the “lifesaving pumping station.” In 2011, it was officially designated and announced as a cultural relic protection unit of Zhuhai City.
