Six million-dollar views in Shimen! Spend a whole day exploring the charming coastline

Shimen Wind Power Station only opens the area around the first wind turbine for tourism, while the other five are restricted. In the open area, there is a parking lot, an observation boardwalk, and an observation deck beneath the wind turbine. The observation deck features specially designed, sail-shaped sunshades, offering distant views of the nearby seascape and coastal hills, including the other five wind turbines. Beneath the rotating blades, the gentle sea breeze combined with the breeze from the spinning turbines keeps the area cool even in the heat of summer. The expansive view instantly refreshes everyone, helping you forget daily stress and worries.

Located along the Shimen District coastline of Taiwan’s northern coast, the Laomei Green Stone Troughs turn a vivid green every year from March to May due to seaweed growth, creating a unique landscape found nowhere else in Taiwan. When the stone troughs are covered with lush green algae, their distinctive colors and elegant lines form a breathtaking scene that photography enthusiasts flock to capture each year.

Facing Cape Fugui and standing on either side of Baishawan Beach, this cape was formed by the eruption of Zhuzi Volcano from the Datun Volcano Group 800,000 years ago, extending out toward the sea. Residents of Demei Li called it “Biwibei” or “Biwitou,” but it was renamed “Linzishui Nose” during the Japanese colonial period. The area is composed largely of volcanic rock “andesite,” which is dark black and hard in texture. The angular wind-eroded stones along the Linzishui Nose walking trail are iconic landform features.

Hidden within the Fuguijiao Park in Taiwan’s northern coast lies a viral social media attraction—the “Laomei Maze.” Alternating brick walls form winding and intricate pathways, and this novelty design delights many visitors. Though the maze isn’t very large, its location on a vast lawn, coupled with its mysterious totem-like aerial view, gives it the feel of a miniature alien ruin. It’s highly photogenic and fun to explore, making it a must-shoot hot spot when visiting the northern coast. For a full view of the maze, it’s recommended to climb up the slope to better appreciate its sprawling, irregular layout.
