Breathtaking coastal views stretch as far as the eye can see – "coastal camping" is all the rage in Tainan

In the past, camping spots were mostly located in mountainous areas or private farms. The seaside was rarely chosen due to inconvenient transportation and unfavorable weather conditions for setting up camps. However, with the recent rise of attractions like the Crystal Church and the development of coastal roads, many camping enthusiasts have broken away from traditional models and flocked to try"coastal camping."。

Riding on this wave, many businesses have also started opening campsites along Tainan’s coast. After renovating the abandoned Yonghua Elementary School, the Southwestern Coast National Scenic Area Administration collaborated with private operators to build a new campsite designed to resemble lotus leaves. Covering a vast area, it can accommodate 28 eight-person tents and even overcomes the challenge of rainy weather, allowing visitors to enjoy camping even when it rains. More uniquely, operators have combined features like old fishing boats, canoe tours of the lagoon, and artificial salt cave explorations to offer an alternative form of "dynamic camping."

Visitors to the Yonghua Elementary School campsite can head east to the ultra-popular "Crystal Church" or west to the salt fields to watch the beautiful sunset. The school also has a dedicated bike path, enabling cycling enthusiasts to reach various attractions along the trail.

Additionally, Taiwan’s northernmost Shuangchun Coastal Recreation Area saw a business apply to the government last year for site renovation, resulting in 14 newly built campsites that can accommodate around 30 tents. This allows visitors access to the area’s expansive mangrove forests, which are rich in plant life and home to wetland animals such as egrets, mudskippers, and fiddler crabs. At night, visitors can lie on the beach, gaze at the starry sky, chat, and enjoy the gentle sea breeze.
