Yudao Kou

Yudao Kou is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

　The Yudao Kou Ranch Grassland and Forest Scenic Area is located in the Bashang region of Weichang County, Chengde City. In 1982, it was approved by the State Council as a national scenic area; in 1998, the Yudao Kou Grassland Scenic Area was established; in 1999, it was designated as an ecological tourism demonstration zone of Hebei Province by the provincial government; in 2005, it was rated as a national AAAA-level scenic area; in 2006, it was named China’s Best Tourism Scenic Area. The entire scenic area has been honored as a “Trustworthy Tourism Quality Unit,” “Outstanding Contributor to Tourism,” “Advanced Tourism Work Unit,” “Top 100 Self-Drive Tourism Brand Scenic Area in China,” “Top Ten Forest Parks,” “Civilized Tourism Scenic Area,” and “Honesty-Credible Tourism Scenic Area of Hebei Province.” On December 31, 2006, the General Secretary visited the area to offer condolences and provided important guidance for its future development. The scenic area spans a total area of one thousand square kilometers, with elevations ranging from 1,230 to 1,820 meters. It features a cold temperate continental monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 3°C. The area contains 700,000 mu of pristine grassland, 200,000 mu of wetlands, 21 natural freshwater lakes, 47 springs (most of which are mineral springs), 13 rivers, and is one of the sources of the Luan River. It is home to 659 plant species across 50 families, over 100 types of wildlife, and dozens of varieties of mountain delicacies, showcasing typical biodiversity. It is truly “the source of water, the hometown of clouds, the world of flowers, the ocean of forests, and a paradise for rare birds and animals.” This area complements the Chengde Mountain Resort, the largest imperial garden, forming an essential part of the Beijing-Chengde golden tourism route. It was once part of the Mulan Paddock, the imperial hunting ground of the Qing Dynasty. Historical sites such as Emperor Kangxi’s Training Platform, Imperial Spring, Crouching Ox Loop, Heavenly Ladder Ridge, and the Ancient Imperial Road are rich in Qing imperial cultural heritage. Attractions like the Immortal Cave, Peach Mountain Lake, Sun Lake, Moon Lake, Hundred Flowers Slope, Grand Canyon, and Turtle Mountain leave visitors in awe and reluctant to leave. It serves as an ideal destination for eco-tourism activities such as grassland sightseeing, bird watching, horseback riding, fishing, boating, bonfire entertainment, off-road racing, scientific expeditions, leisure vacations, conferences, ice-skating, skiing, and hunting. The location is easily accessible, just 400 km from Beijing, 220 km from Chengde, and 100 km from Weichang. Major highways lead directly to the scenic area, giving it clear advantages in both visitor access and geographical position. The area is fully equipped with electricity and communication facilities, providing solid infrastructure for tourism development.
