Liuliping National Forest Park
Liuliping National Forest Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national forest park.
Liuliping National Forest Park is located 15 kilometers southwest of Xinglong County, Chengde City, Hebei Province. The park lies at the junction of Beijing, Tianjin, Tangshan, and Chengde, 165 kilometers from downtown Beijing, 180 kilometers from downtown Tianjin, and 145 kilometers from the Chengde Mountain Resort. It is 25 kilometers south of the Eastern Qing Tombs, 20 kilometers north of the Wuling Mountain National Nature Reserve, 50 kilometers west of the Jinhai Lake Tourist Area and Huangyaguan Great Wall, and just 5 kilometers northeast of the Xinglong Observation Station of the Beijing Astronomical Observatory. The park covers a total area of 2,250 hectares. The geological structure of the resort area is mainly gneiss, while the mountainous area of Jiulongtan Sightseeing Tourist Zone is predominantly granite. With its towering, majestic peaks and steep cliffs, the park features unique landforms such as Twin Lion Cliff, Pillar of Heaven, Immortal’s Chess Table, Antelope Grand Canyon, and Turtle-Shaped Rock.
Liuliping National Forest Park is located in Xinglong County, Chengde City, with geographical coordinates between 40°18′20″–40°21′10″ N latitude and 117°28′28″–117°35′34″ E longitude. Situated at the intersection of Beijing, Tianjin, Tangshan, and Chengde, the park is 165 kilometers from Beijing, 180 kilometers from Tianjin, and 145 kilometers from the Chengde Mountain Resort. It lies along the central section of the Beijing-North Golden Tourism Route, 25 kilometers south of the Eastern Qing Tombs, 20 kilometers north of the Wuling Mountain National Nature Reserve, 50 kilometers west of the Jinhai Lake Tourist Area and Huangyaguan Great Wall, and only 5 kilometers northeast of the Xinglong Observation Station of the Beijing Astronomical Observatory.

The park spans a total area of 1,500 hectares, including 1,025 hectares in the Liuliping Forest Tourism Resort and 1,225 hectares in the Jiulongtan Sightseeing Tourist Zone.
Liuliping Forest Park was designated as a “forbidden imperial feng shui ground” during the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, exclusively guarded by Qing soldiers and closed off for over 270 years. The park features high mountains, dense forests, clear waters, and tranquil rocks. Its unique rock formations and natural landscapes have earned it the nickname “Little Huangshan of the North.” There are over 30 natural and cultural attractions. The spectacular stone waterfall clusters are one of the park’s most distinctive features.
Scenery
Within the park, Liuyuan Lake is the source of the Liu River. This high-altitude alpine lake, situated nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, remains rippling year-round. Here, the landscape of mountains and water complement each other, offering pleasant scenery. Climbing to the main peak of Liuliping, you can look north to Wuling Mountain, south to the Eastern Qing Tombs, west to Miyun Reservoir, and east to the Astronomical Observatory—vast, rolling pine waves and refreshing breezes make for a truly uplifting experience.
Xinglong Town: As a county seat town, Xinglong Town borders Ping’anbao Town to the east, Liudaohé Town to the west, Nántiānmén to the south, and Wuling Mountain Township to the north. It serves as the political, economic, and cultural center of the county.
