Bafang Site

Bafang Site is a cultural heritage site protected by Henan Province.

A cultural heritage site protected by Henan Province. It is located southeast of Bafang Village, Gaocheng Town, about 15 kilometers southeast of Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou. The site covers an area of approximately 20,000 square meters. It was first discovered in 1954.

From 1979 to 1980, the Henan Provincial Cultural Relics Research Institute conducted trial excavations, uncovering an area of over 100 square meters and discovering 22 ash pits. Artifacts unearthed included both production tools and daily utensils. Production tools consisted of stone shovels, stone balls, and bone awls; daily utensils were mainly pottery, including clay red pottery, sand-tempered brown pottery, and clay gray pottery. The surfaces of the pottery were mostly plain or polished, with a few featuring incised lines or painted designs. The pottery was primarily hand-made, with vessel shapes including tripods, jars, urns, basins, bowls, and pointed-bottom bottles. These items date back to the early and middle periods of the Yangshao Culture.

Toutou Town: Located in the central-northern part of Chengde County, Toutou Town was established as a junior cooperative in 1955 and officially became a town in 1985. It covers a total area of 182.16 square kilometers, with 38,000 mu of agricultural land and 229,000 mu of forested land. The area is vast and inclusive. The total population is 26,780, with 13,167 laborers. The town governs 28 administrative villages, 109 natural villages, and 171 villager groups. The entire town is peaceful, civilized, and full of vitality. To the north lies Tangquan Village, home to the “Number One Hot Spring Under Heaven.” In the southeast are villages such as Shangcangzi and Shanghebei, rich in vanadium-titanium mineral resources.
