Hongsongwa Grassland Scenic Area is situated in the northwest of Weichang County, adjacent to Hexigten Town of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the north. It is part of the Mulan Paddock, the imperial hunting ground of the Qing Dynasty. The area has abundant wind resources and is equipped with a large-scale wind power plant.

The area is also home to unique yak herds and features a cold temperate monsoon climate, with cool summers where temperatures generally do not exceed 25°C. Covering an area of 1.1 million mu, Hongsongwa includes 200,000 mu of grassland and boasts a forest coverage rate of up to 78%, making it one of the larger grassland scenic areas in the northern part of the county. The area is rich in diverse flora and fauna, with lush water and grass, serving as an emerging tourist destination in the region.

Located at the junction of the Inner Mongolia Plateau and the northern Hebei mountainous region, the terrain and vegetation here are complex. Mountainous plateaus complement each other; rolling hills and grassy plains stretch as far as the eye can see; rivers and lakes are scattered like stars; forests and grasslands intertwine. In particular, the vast grasslands blend harmoniously with extensive natural meadows, creating a magnificent and beautiful landscape. The area is home to a mix of Manchu, Mongolian, and Han ethnic groups, resulting in a rich cultural fusion and vibrant ethnic customs. Visitors can enjoy cuisine with Manchu and Mongolian flavors, participate in traditional ethnic activities, and explore the region’s distinctive ethnic tourism.
