Reshui Provincial Governor's Office

The Reshui Provincial Governor's Office is located on Dongshengfu Street in Chengde. Originally built as the office of the Reshui General Administration, it was renamed from Governor-General to Deputy Governor-General in the third year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign, and elevated to Governor-General in the fifteenth year of Emperor Jiaqing’s reign—all headquartered here. The Reshui Governor-General governed Chengde Prefecture as well as the two leagues of Zhao’uda and Zhuosotu in Inner Mongolia. The government of the Reshui Province, established in 1914, was also located here.

Most of the current buildings within the office are well preserved. Outside the ceremonial gate is a large screen wall, and there are the ceremonial gate, main hall, second hall, and third hall, all flanked by wing rooms on the east and west. Beyond the third hall lies the governor’s private residence. To the west is a flower hall, while the east side houses some auxiliary offices and other facilities. It is one of the few remaining high-level administrative offices from the Qing Dynasty in China, possessing both high historical and cultural value.
