Xinglong Station of the National Astronomical Observatories

Affiliated to the Optical Open Laboratory of the National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences, it serves as the optical astronomical observation base for stars and galaxies under the National Astronomical Observatories. Observing celestial phenomena and stargazing here is a uniquely fascinating experience. The Xinglong Observation Station of the National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is located at the southern foot of Wuling Mountain, the main peak of the Yanshan Mountains in Xinglong County, Hebei Province, at an altitude of 960 meters. It is equipped with the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST), a 2.16-meter optical telescope, a 1.26-meter infrared telescope, a 60/90-centimeter Schmidt telescope, an 85-centimeter reflector telescope, an 80-centimeter reflector telescope, and a 60-centimeter reflector telescope. Situated in a remote mountainous area, the site enjoys excellent astronomical seeing conditions and high atmospheric transparency, offering 240 to 260 nights suitable for spectroscopic observations and 100 to 120 nights suitable for photometric observations each year. Among these, the 2.16-meter and 1.26-meter telescopes, which belong to the CAS Optical Astronomy Joint Open Laboratory, along with their auxiliary equipment, are open to astronomers both domestic and international. Approved astronomers may apply for and gain access to use these telescopes.
