The Tomb of Zheng Dongguo is a cultural relic protection unit of Hunan Province.

On January 27, 1991, he passed away in Beijing at the age of 88. His ashes were buried in the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in Beijing.

In the spring of 2006, according to the late general’s wishes, his family had his ashes transferred from Beijing's Babaoshan to his hometown of Shimen and laid to rest on the southern foothills of Jia Mountain. On April 5, a grand burial ceremony for General Zheng Dongguo was held at the scenic Jia Mountain National Forest Park. The grave site is located behind the Xiangxibei Archaeological Work Station of the Provincial Cultural Relics and Archaeology Research Institute, covering nearly one acre. The tomb chamber is built with white marble, and the stone steps leading to it are flanked by pine, cypress, and peach trees. At the entrance to the grave site stands a marble stele inscribed with “Tomb of Zheng Dongguo, Renowned Anti-Japanese General.” The people of Shimen welcomed their hero’s spirit back to his hometown, and two elegiac couplets were hung high above the site:

The general’s name lives on in the history of the Anti-Japanese War;

The brave hero’s soul sings the song of valor.

Riding the clear wind and bright moon, the hero’s soul returns to his native land;

Remembering the iron steeds and clashing weapons, the general’s might writes history.

Zheng Dongguo, courtesy name Guiting, was born on January 13, 1903, in Nanyue Temple Village, Shangxi, Mishi, Shimen County, Hunan Province. In 1924, he was admitted to the first class of the Whampoa Military Academy. The following year, he participated in the Eastern Expedition and the Northern Expedition. He served successively as a battalion, regiment, brigade, and division commander in the National Revolutionary Army. In 1933, he led troops in the defense of the ancient Gubeikou section of the Great Wall. After the July 7th Incident, he successively commanded forces in the Baoding Defense Battle, the Battle of Taierzhuang, the Wuhan Campaign, the Battle of Kunlun Pass, the Western Hubei Campaign, and the Second Changsha Campaign, achieving repeated victories against the enemy and earning outstanding military honors.
