As winter approaches and the weather gradually turns cooler, maple leaves across Taiwan are turning red one after another. Shimen Reservoir, one of the popular maple-viewing spots in northern Taiwan, is also showcasing its vibrant hues. Areas such as the Maple Forest Trail at the High-Line Toll Station, the Maple Park along the Mid-Line, Xizhou Boulevard, and the South Garden within the Shimen Reservoir area are seeing their maple trees slowly shift from yellow to red, creating a warm and enchanting landscape – a perfect destination for a weekend getaway.

The Shimen Reservoir Administration Office stated that recently, with the changing climate, more than 3,000 maple and acer trees around the reservoir have begun to turn yellow, with some gradually shifting to red, attracting many visitors to the park. The public can enter via the High-Line Toll Station, walk along the Maple Forest Trail, and enjoy the scenery on the way to Xizhou, the South Garden, and the Maple Park, experiencing the reservoir’s unique seasonal beauty. The round-trip journey takes about one to two hours.
