To welcome New Year’s Day and the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has specially installed outdoor decorative lighting around locations within its jurisdiction, including Shanzihai Beach in Sanzhi, Baishawan Beach in Shimen, the Northernmost Blue Point, Wedding Square, Kite Park, Jinshan Jumping Stone Public Toilet, Keelung’s Heping Island, and the Guanyin Mountain Visitor Center. This effort aims to create a festive atmosphere in celebration of the “2018 Bay Tourism Year.”

The administration has utilized leftover lanterns or LED lights from the Taiwan Lantern Festival to craft a warm and joyful “light environment.” By incorporating energy-efficient LED decorations and adopting the theme of “A Warm and Happy Coast,” the administration seeks to create a festive, cozy, and tranquil lighting ambiance. Using a combination of points, lines, and surfaces, it connects scenic spots along the North Coast, showcasing a warm, cheerful, and romantic atmosphere. In conjunction with the year-end “Love at Guanyin Mountain Countdown Party” and the “2018 Guanyin Eagle Watching Event,” this light display has been extended to Guanyin Mountain for the first time.

The administration stated that each location features a unique theme. For example, “Dancing Spirits” at Shanzihai Beach in Sanzhi depicts graceful butterflies fluttering among date palms and shrubs, evoking a joyful mood. Meanwhile, “Leisurely Drive Along Provincial Highway 2” at Baishawan Beach in Shimen uses heart-shaped motifs to convey a sense of happiness and delight. At the Northernmost Blue Point, “Ocean Song” simulates the azure coastline of northern Taiwan, allowing visitors to enjoy the spectacular views of an island nation.

Additionally, “Hearts Entwined” at the Shimen Wedding Square captures the romantic essence of Mediterranean and European architecture at night. Keelung’s Heping Island presents “Fairy Tale Forest,” where blue lights illuminate the area's pathways, highlighting coastal beauty. At the Guanyin Mountain Visitor Center, “Eagles Soar” expresses hope for travelers passing through, awaiting a future filled with happiness.

The light displays will be exhibited from the 23rd until early March next year. The North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration welcomes the public to visit the North Coast during winter for hot spring soaking. In addition to enjoying four distinctive types of thermal waters — Jinshan-Wanli Iron Spring, Sulfur Spring, Sodium Bicarbonate Spring, and Sulfur Salt Spring (submarine hot spring) — visitors can also admire the administration’s carefully designed festive decorations along the way, bringing warmth and joy to the cold winter season.
