The Child-Begging Cave, one of the Sixteen Caves of Tianmen Mountain, is said in folklore to be where the Goddess of Mercy (Guanyin), who grants children, once appeared. Devotees who pray sincerely here may be granted the blessing of a child.

The Child-Begging Cave is one of the Sixteen Caves of Tianmen Mountain. It is recorded in the local chronicle "Hunan Yongding County Annals," but local legends are even more fantastical. It is said that any couple unable to conceive after many years of marriage can come to this “Child-Begging Cave” to worship devoutly. It is believed that this cave is highly efficacious—if you pray with a sincere heart, your wish will be granted, ensuring the joy of a new child and the continuation of your family line. Legend has it that the reason this cave is so effective is because the “Child-Giving Goddess” has a golden gong near her ear, and whenever the gong rings by her ear, she immediately sends a child to the human world. Whether true or not, visitors can judge for themselves.
