Yongdingmen Park
Yongdingmen Park (Chongwen Area) was completed in September 2004, with a total green space of 138,000 square meters. The green area is shaped like a ship, featuring rows of tree formations that complement the adjacent Temple of Heaven walls and Yongdingmen. The pavement and resting facilities are designed to match the style of the Temple of Heaven walls. In 2006, the park was awarded the title of “Beijing Premium Park.”
Yongdingmen Park (Chongwen Area) is an important part of Beijing’s “Cross-shaped Landscape Axis,” revered as the “Dragon Vein” and “Heavenly Street.” The park stretches from Nanyi Road in the north to Yongdingmen in the south, borders the Temple of Heaven walls to the east, and connects to Yongdingmen Park (Xuanwu Area) to the west. The park covers a green area of 67,000 square meters. The overall green space is shaped like a ship, and cultural elements are expressed through a series of small plazas and ground pavements. A central pedestrian walkway, paved with stone slabs in the middle and grey bricks on both sides—modeled after an imperial path—runs from north to south and connects to the Forbidden City’s imperial path, forming a symbolic landmark of the South Central Axis. The pavement and resting facilities are designed in harmony with the Temple of Heaven walls, using natural materials such as grey bricks and green tiles, blending seamlessly with the overall style of the South Central Axis: “balanced, generous, simple, and natural.”
