On June 21, the awards ceremony for the first “Yongding Tulou · China’s Most Beautiful Homestay” Creative Design Competition and the second “Meet Tulou · Shake Up the Wonders” Yongding Tulou Douyin Challenge was held at the Yongding Tulou Food Center.

More than 200 people attended the event, including Zhan Cuifang, Deputy District Chief of Yongding District, heads of relevant district-level units, experts and scholars in the homestay industry, tourism enterprises, winners of the Second “Meet Tulou · Shake Up the Wonders” Yongding Tulou Douyin Challenge and the First “Yongding Tulou · China’s Most Beautiful Homestay” Creative Design Competition, as well as media reporters.

Since its launch on February 21 this year, the Second “Meet Tulou · Shake Up the Wonders” Yongding Tulou Douyin Challenge has seen enthusiastic participation from Douyin users, who have shared short videos featuring the cultural, historical, scenic, and folk elements of the Tulou scenic area via the video app. In a short time, it garnered widespread attention and attracted large numbers of online viewers, significantly boosting the visibility and reputation of the Yongding scenic area, and taking its influence to new heights. As of May 31, the challenge received over 2,000 entries, with the topic achieving a total exposure of 67 million views and the most-liked video receiving approximately 230,000 likes. Based on a comprehensive evaluation by the judging panel considering both the number of likes and content relevance, 10 excellence awards, 5 third prizes, 2 second prizes, and 1 first prize were awarded.

To further promote the integrated development of “cultural tourism revitalization” in Yongding District, enhance the visibility of cultural tourism brands, deeply explore resources for the development and utilization of Tulou tourism, enrich the tourism formats of Yongding Tulou, and build a “new Yongding that is entrepreneurial, innovative, beautiful, and virtuous,” the First “Yongding Tulou · China’s Most Beautiful Homestay” Creative Design Competition was carried out through activities such as pre-event promotions, competition submissions, preview exhibitions, and offline launches. It is understood that the Tulou homestay creative design competition received a total of 83 entries. After preliminary reviews by homestay expert judges, H5-based voting, and final evaluations, 16 finalists, 10 excellence awards, 3 bronze awards, 2 silver awards, and 1 gold award were selected based on a comprehensive assessment of eight criteria: theme, design concept, operational planning, aesthetic value, harmony with the environment, cultural integration, economic comfort, and environmental sustainability.

At the event site, a signing ceremony for Tulou homestay projects was also held. The organizers signed cooperation agreements with two design firms, officially launching the planning and construction of the homestays. Yongding plans to invest in building a number of homestays with stories, emotion, and lifestyle, aiming to have the first batch of distinctive Yongding homestays and boutique hotels operational around the 2020 Spring Festival.

Meanwhile, Xu Minqi, President of the Tulou Homestay Association, announced a campaign on-site to recruit Tulou homestay sleep testers, planning to enlist 10 professional sleep testers to conduct “sleep testing experiences” at existing distinctive homestays in Yongding. These professional sleep tests aim to help elevate the quality of Yongding’s unique homestays.

In recent years, the Yongding District Party Committee and District Government have deeply advanced the creation of all-for-one tourism. Focusing on the tourism development plan and positioning of the “Yongding Hakka Tulou Cultural Tourism Area,” they have leveraged the Hakka Tulou and the distinctive Hakka culture to vigorously implement the “cultural tourism revitalization” development strategy. They have deeply explored resources for the development and utilization of Tulou tourism, strengthened promotional efforts for Yongding tourism, continuously enriched the tourism formats of Yongding Tulou, and promoted a high degree of integration between the cultural and tourism industries.
