Wuhan Anshan National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Wuhan Anshan National Wetland Park is located in Anshan Subdistrict, Jiangxia District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. The surrounding lakes mainly include Shangshe Lake, Futou Lake, Lu Lake, Liangzi Lake, and Niushan Lake, approximately 10.5 km from the Yangtze River. The planned area of the project covers 1,215.26 hectares, primarily consisting of lake wetlands, along with some marsh wetlands. The park boasts beautiful natural wetland landscapes and profound historical and cultural heritage, with rich biodiversity that holds significant conservation value. It is abundant in natural resources, currently home to four species of nationally protected plants (Class II), two species of nationally protected wildlife (Class I), eleven species of nationally protected wildlife (Class II), and fifty-one species of provincially protected wildlife in Hubei. The renowned Miaozui Site and Xin Yao Kiln Site reflect the historical and cultural depth of Anshan.

To better restore and protect the ecological environment of western Anshan Subdistrict and its surroundings, strengthen ecological civilization, promote tourism development in Jiangxia District, and enhance overall benefits, Anshan Subdistrict Office timely initiated preparations for applying for the establishment of Anshan Wetland Park in 2012, with the vision of building a harmonious society, practicing the Scientific Outlook on Development, and pursuing a green economic development path. The "Wuhan Anshan National Wetland Park Master Plan" was formulated. On December 30, 2013, the State Forestry Administration approved (on a trial basis) the construction of Wuhan Anshan National Wetland Park. The construction period is three years, with main projects including wetland conservation, wetland restoration, science education and outreach, scientific research and monitoring, rational utilization of wetlands, and management service infrastructure.

Taking into account the geographical location and resource characteristics of Anshan Wetland Park, the construction of relevant projects for wetland protection, restoration, science education and outreach, and rational utilization aims to protect the wetland ecosystem, integrate resources, develop moderately, and advance ecological civilization. These efforts seek to improve the regional water environment, enhance water quality, restore and protect wetland biodiversity, fully leverage the ecological functions of the wetland system, and serve functions such as wetland education and research, eco-tourism, flood storage and regulation. The plan envisions gradually developing the park into:

• 1. A key wintering ground for migratory birds in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River;

• 2. A demonstration site and protected area for typical lake wetland resources in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River;

• 3. A representative area for bird watching and wetland plant appreciation;

• 4. A socially beneficial ecological wetland park that enhances public environmental awareness and aesthetic appreciation.

Aimed at protecting and restoring the lake wetland ecosystem and biodiversity, Wuhan Anshan National Wetland Park ensures the full functionality of the wetland ecosystem. By making full use of local cultural and natural landscape resources, the park is developed into a national wetland park with distinctive local features, a strong cultural atmosphere, complete infrastructure, unique wetland landscapes, and a blend of science education and leisure activities. It is built into a national model site for the "conservation · utilization · enhancement" of wetland resources, promoting the sustainable social and economic development of the region.
