Shangshe Lake Wetland Nature Reserve

Shangshe Lake Wetland Nature Reserve is a provincial-level nature reserve.

Shangshe Lake Wetland Nature Reserve is located in the southwest of Jiangxia District. It is a typical freshwater lake and seasonal marsh wetland, covering a total area of 4,148.75 hectares. The wetland boasts rich biodiversity, with 581 identified species of vascular plants, 29 species of benthic animals, 74 species of fish, 23 species of mammals, and 111 species of birds. Among them, there are 3 species under national first-class protection, 8 species under national second-class protection, and 36 species under provincial protection. To strengthen the protection of Shangshe Lake Wetland, the Jiangxia District Forestry Bureau has organized experts from institutions such as Central China Normal University and Wuhan University to conduct scientific research and surveys on the wetland since 2005. This led to the formation of the "Comprehensive Survey and Master Plan Report for Shangshe Lake Wetland Nature Reserve," which garnered significant attention from municipal and district leaders. In March 2006, it was officially approved as the Shangshe Lake Wetland Nature Reserve of Jiangxia District, and in January 2008, it was listed as a municipal-level wetland nature reserve by the municipal government. Currently, the wetland protection department of the district forestry bureau is working on constructing entrance gates, plaques, boundary markers, and boundary stones for the reserve.
