Scenic Spot of the Strange Rock Slope

The Strange Rock Slope is located in Group 4 of Wangjia Village, Wangjia Township, about 2 kilometers north of the reception center of the Linglong Gorge Rafting Company, at the foot of Puchuanling Mountain, commonly known as Majiatang. Legend has it that the rocks were dropped here when Lu Ban (a legendary master carpenter in Chinese folklore) capsized a boat. It lies approximately 60 kilometers southeast of the county’s Taoist sacred site, Mingfeng Mountain, 100 kilometers south of the Three Gorges Scenic Area in Yichang City, 100 kilometers northwest of the primitive Shennongjia area, and 200 kilometers north of the ancient Longzhong site of the Three Kingdoms period in Xiangfan. Situated along the key tourist route of western Hubei and accessible via the Yibao Highway, the area enjoys convenient transportation and covers an area of about 100 hectares. The slope is covered with uniquely shaped rocks in various forms—resembling immortals descending to earth, peacocks spreading their wings, tigers charging wildly, or the imperial concubine drunk in revelry—which captivate visitors and make them linger. For a long time, only locals told stories about the Strange Rock Slope, and it did not attract much attention from the public. In October 1999, some “curious explorers” invited experts to conduct research, and the tourism development potential of the site was officially recognized. Later, after being featured in the Yichang Daily · Yuan’an Edition and reprinted by Yichang Daily, the site gained significant fame, attracting tourists from hundreds of kilometers around and becoming one of the well-known tourist attractions in Yuan’an.
