Nanyangcheng Ruins

The Nanyangcheng Ruins are a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Nanyangcheng Ruins are located in the vast farmland of Baidanqiu, Group 4, Nanyangcheng Village, Yangping Town, Yuan’an County. Dating back to the Warring States period to the Han Dynasty, the site is an irregular rectangle, stretching 900 meters from north to south and 300 meters from east to west, covering an area of 270,000 square meters.

The remaining parts of the site include the northern and eastern walls, which are 213 meters long, 21 meters wide, and 1.9 meters high, constructed using rammed earth. The site contains a large number of tiles and pottery fragments from the Warring States period to the Han Dynasty. The pottery is mainly gray earthenware, with some red earthenware. Artifacts include li tripods, dou stemmed bowls, yu basins, guan jars, and spinning whorls. Over 40 bronze swords have been unearthed, the longest of which measures 62 centimeters. About 500 meters southeast of the remaining wall, a 10-meter-deep ancient pottery well was discovered. To the north of the site lies the Jinbaling Eastern Zhou Dynasty tomb cluster, while to the south is the Mulinggang Eastern Han Dynasty tomb cluster.

The location of the Nanyangcheng Ruins was a central area of Chu people activity. The abundant relics within the site hold significant value for the study of Chu history and culture.
