The Hometown of the Three Yuans is a cultural tourism attraction.

Located on Guihua Terrace, about 2 kilometers east of Mengjiaxi Town in Gong’an County, this is the hometown of the three renowned Ming Dynasty literary figures: Yuan Zongdao, Yuan Hongdao, and Yuan Zhongdao. Guihua Terrace is approximately 4 meters high and 6 meters wide. Legend has it that it was an earthen platform specially built by their grandfather, Yuan Dahua, in the backyard garden for enjoying the scenery and cooling off in the summer. A sweet osmanthus tree was planted on the terrace, hence the name Guihua Terrace. About 100 meters southeast of the terrace lies Heye Mountain, which is the joint burial site of Yuan Zongdao and Yuan Zhongdao. A tall tombstone stands 300 meters in front of the tomb. Among the Three Yuans, Yuan Hongdao also had another hometown, now known as the Liulang Site. This is where Yuan Hongdao, after resigning from his official post in the 18th year of the Wanli era (1590), returned to his hometown and purchased 300 acres of low-lying land southwest of Douhudi. On slightly higher ground, he built the three-room Liulang Pavilion. The Qing Dynasty poet Hou Jiaguang wrote in his poem “Reminiscing at Liulang”: “Willows on Liulang Lake drift like mist,” and later generations listed “Mist-Shrouded Willows at Liulang” as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Gong’an.

It is the hometown of the great Ming Dynasty literary trio, the “Three Yuans,” and is situated in the central-southern part of Gong’an County, Hubei Province. The town administers 17 administrative villages and 3 residential committees, covering a total area of 124 square kilometers with a population of 54,000.

Since the reform and opening-up, Mengjiaxi’s economy has developed rapidly. The town achieves an annual total industrial and agricultural output value of 458.18 million yuan, including 269.98 million yuan from industrial enterprises and 188.20 million yuan from agriculture, with an average per capita income of 5,000 yuan for urban and rural residents.
