Jiming City Ruins

The Jiming City Ruins are a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Jiming City Ruins are located at the border between Longchunzui Village and Wangjiachang Village in Shizikou Town, Gong’an County. This site is a Neolithic-era city, roughly trapezoidal in shape with rounded corners. It stretches about 480 meters from north to south and 330–430 meters from east to west, covering an area of approximately 180,000 square meters, and dates back over 5,000 years. The city is surrounded by a moat. The elevated area around Shenjiadashan within the city features a cultural layer over 2 meters thick. A small site has also been discovered about 100 meters southeast of the city, with a cultural layer more than 1 meter thick. Artifacts from the Daxi Culture to the Shijiahe Culture period have been collected within the site’s range.

The Jiming City Ruins hold significant importance for studying the social development level, ecological environment, and settlement patterns of the ancient Jianghan region.

In 2006, it was designated as part of the sixth group of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.

Shizikou Town: (1) Historical Evolution — During the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC), Channing County was established, and Shizikou fell within its jurisdiction. By the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty (209 AD), Liu Bei renamed Channing County to Gong’an County. During the Eastern Wu period, Shizikou Town was part of Channing County. In 589 AD (the ninth year of the Kaihuang era under Emperor Wen of Sui), Shizikou belonged to Yong’an County. During the Guangxu and Xuantong periods of the Qing Dynasty, Shizikou Town was divided into eastern and western sections. In 1917 (the sixth year of the Republic of China), it was reorganized as Southwest Shangxiang. In 1946, Shizikou was divided into Gushen, Dehe, and Jingjin townships.
