The Hanjiajie Site

The Hanjiajie Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hebei Province.

The Hanjiajie Site was discovered in July 1983 during a survey on a high terrace east of Hanjiajie Village, San nvhe Township, on the southern bank of the Nih River. It covers an area of 48,750 square meters. The cultural layer lies 0.5 to 0.7 meters below the surface, with a thickness of 0.6 to 0.8 meters, and contains extremely rich remains, including a large number of pottery, stone tools, bone and horn artifacts, bronze ware, and other cultural relics. Based on the collected artifacts, the site spans from the late Neolithic Longshan Culture (dating back 5,000 to 4,000 years) at its earliest, to the Lower Xiajiadian Culture (4,500 to 3,600 years ago), which coexisted with the Xia and Shang dynasties, and also includes relics from the Warring States and Han periods, around 2,000 years ago. Artifacts representing the Longshan Culture include: a basin-shaped gray pottery ding (also known as the "ghost face ding"), a tall-handled black-glazed pottery dou, perforated stone spades, and double-hole stone knives. Artifacts representing the Lower Xiajiadian Culture include: cylindrical black-glazed gray pottery, sandy brown pottery, stone disc-shaped implements, bone rings, bone awls, leaf-shaped copper earrings, and perforated copper darts, all of which are quite distinctive. In addition, there are artifacts such as "folded-shoulder cord-marked jars" from the Warring States period and a large number of pottery fragments from the Warring States and Han periods. These relics provide important evidence for studying the early historical origins and continuity of the region. In November 2008, it was designated as a Provincial Cultural Heritage Site of Hebei Province by the Hebei Provincial Government.
