Martyr Hu Yousong Memorial Hall

The Martyr Hu Yousong Memorial Hall is a cultural heritage site and a classic red tourism attraction.

The Martyr Hu Yousong Memorial Hall is located in Yousong Village, Chenchang Town, Xiantao City.

Hu Yousong’s former residence was burned down by the Nationalist County Defense Corps of Mianyang on April 15, 1928, leaving only a stone door frame.

To commemorate Martyr Hu Yousong, the Mianyang County government renamed Pochang Brigade to Yousong Brigade and built the Martyr Hu Yousong Memorial Hall in 1976. The hall displays an introduction to the martyr’s life and some of his personal belongings. A 12.5-meter-high monument to Martyr Hu Yousong stands in front of the hall. In 1986, a memorial shrine was established at Hu Yousong’s former residence, featuring three statues.

The Martyr Hu Yousong Memorial Hall was designated as a municipal cultural heritage site by the Xiantao Municipal People's Government in November 1990, and as a Hubei Provincial Patriotic Education Base by the Hubei Provincial People's Government in February 1999. Currently, the relocation and reconstruction project of the Martyr Hu Yousong Memorial Hall is underway.

Hu Yousong (1898–1930), courtesy name Heshan, original name Xianming, also known by the aliases Shen Zhi and Chigong, was from Mianyang (now Pochang Village, Chenchang Town, Xiantao). He was a key leader of the agrarian movement in Qian (Jiang) and Mian (Yang) during the Great Revolution and the first secretary of the Qianjiang County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. Under the Party’s leadership, he organized local farmers to establish a red political regime and launched armed uprisings, making significant contributions to strengthening the Red Army forces and consolidating and developing the Honghu Revolutionary Base.
