The Taipei Lantern Festival kicked off on February 20 and is expected to run until the 29th. Even before the event began, it sparked a wave of discussion due to the uniquely designed main lantern, the Fortune Monkey. In London, the city has recently caught the oriental festive spirit as well, hosting the “Magical Lantern Festival” (Magical Lantern Festival) full of Eastern charm. In addition to lifelike dragon and panda lanterns, the Year of the Monkey has also inspired monkey-themed lanterns, all drawing praise for their intricate designs—sparking comparisons online with the Taipei’s Fortune Monkey.

The “Magical Lantern Festival” held in Chiswick House Gardens in London’s West End is on display from now until March 6. Throughout the event, you can find exquisitely crafted lanterns rich in Oriental cultural colors. To celebrate the Year of the Monkey, the festival also takes the monkey as its theme, presenting the main lantern “Golden Monkey Climbing Peach.” On this lantern, the Great Sage Equaling Heaven can be seen riding a cloud above Flower-Fruit Mountain, gazing at a giant immortal peach in the distance. On the peach, four monkeys are either climbing or sitting, and together with other monkeys on the mountain, you can spot a total of 12 monkeys scattered throughout the piece. The entire work vividly recreates a scene from "Journey to the West," making for a truly unique spectacle.
