Shafts No. 2 and No. 3 of Tangshan Mine

Shafts No. 2 and No. 3 of Tangshan Mine are cultural heritage sites protected at the provincial level in Hebei Province.

Although they have withstood a century of wind and rain, Shafts No. 2 and No. 3 of Tangshan Mine remain in good condition and are still in operation, making them a "living fossil" of China's modern industry. Both Shaft No. 2 and Shaft No. 3 were dug during the Westernization Movement of the Qing Dynasty as part of the production system supporting Shaft No. 1. Preserved intact for over a century since their excavation, they continue to operate in conjunction with Shaft No. 1, which is a marvel in the history of global coal mining. The hoist houses of Shafts No. 2 and No. 3 have braved the elements for nearly a hundred years. Though some walls partially collapsed or developed serious cracks during the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake, after careful restoration and reinforcement by builders, they still retain their former glory.
