Zunhua Shangheyuan Tourism Complex Scenic Area

The Zunhua Shangheyuan Tourism Complex Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Shangheyuan Tourism Complex is situated in Xingwangzhai Township, Zunhua City, Hebei Province. It spans from the eastern boundary of Huzhuangzi Village in the east, to the western boundary of Hejiayu Village in the west, bordered by existing mining pit hills in the north and the southern side of the Sha River in the south. The scenic area covers 5.9 square kilometers and was jointly invested in and developed with 7.2 billion yuan by the original Shangheyuan Group in collaboration with Country Garden Group and Baiyue Cultural Tourism Group. It now features themed sections including town charm, agricultural science education, rural homestays, pastoral sightseeing, leisure entertainment, and experiential learning. The area offers experiences such as enjoying chestnut banquets and local rural flavors; staying in characteristic homestays and exploring century-old chestnut forests; experiencing folk culture and purchasing locally crafted goods; and participating in rural customs to immerse in eastern Hebei’s culture. It is a tertiary industry-integrated destination combining agriculture and tourism with culture and tourism. In 2018, it was recognized as a key construction project in Hebei Province.

Through tailings management, ecological restoration, and tourism development, the scenic area has become a practitioner of China’s "Two Mountains Theory," achieving ecological industrialization and rural revitalization. Meanwhile, the Two Mountains Eco Museum has also become a new-type science education and experience base for the Two Mountains Theory. The China Chestnut Valley, by deeply exploring over 2,000 years of unique history where rural life intertwined with the surrounding chestnut forests, has created highly attractive chestnut-themed products such as chestnut blessings and folk customs, harvest temple fairs, chestnut pastries, chestnut dishes, and chestnut-inspired rural creations. These have shaped the area's distinct regional characteristics.

Lianxiang Town fully leverages Baiyue Group’s rich experience in rural folk experiences. It revives and activates a wealth of intangible cultural heritage, folk festivals, local snacks, rural creations, and countryside entertainment unique to the Tangshan area, making it the most popular destination for folk culture experiences. The Aerospace Agriculture Base, Hebei Province’s first Chinese aerospace breeding industry base, has cultivated 26 new varieties and serves as a modern agricultural expo park. The flower fields and rural homestays of the leisure countryside offer urban visitors the perfect slow-life experience in the suburbs and serve as a model for rural revitalization. When night falls, the scenic area transforms into a dazzling hub of leisure nightlife, where fashion meets folklore, lights dance with music, and food mingles with activities—creating a joyful experience for nighttime tourism.

The scenic area actively implements the Two Mountains Theory by carrying out large-scale restoration and ecological development on the former mining site. Over 30 outdated processing facilities, including mineral selection and mixing plants, have been demolished. In the demonstration zone alone, 2 million cubic meters of tailings sand have been cleared and 300,000 cubic meters of green backfill soil added, achieving a magnificent transformation from mining area to scenic destination. This provides a new possibility for how mining regions can pursue a suitable ecological path, demonstrating strong value in ecological and cultural development.

Drawing on a thousand-year history of chestnut cultivation and local legends, the scenic area organizes the Chestnut Flower Festival, develops chestnut culture-themed products, and continues the region’s chestnut culture, eastern Hebei folklore, and farming traditions, showcasing significant cultural heritage value. Partnering with multiple research institutions, the area adopts a strategy of industry-academia-research integration, establishing Hebei Province’s first Chinese aerospace breeding industry base and writing a new chapter in Hebei’s aerospace agriculture history, offering high value in the promotion of agricultural technology.
