Jianpo Hill is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

Jianpo Hill, a Henan Provincial Patriotic Education Demonstration Base in Baofeng County, Pingdingshan City, is located in Guanyintang, Baofeng County. It includes the Model Workers’ Forest, the Model Workers’ Former Residences, the Model Workers’ Memorial Hall, and more, covering a total area of nearly 5,000 mu. Since the 1960s, brothers - and Li Haishui responded actively to Chairman Mao’s call to “plant trees and afforest the motherland.” They struggled on Jianpo Hill for half a century, afforesting over 2,000 mu of barren land and achieving the goal of “firm will, green mountains,” fully embodying the spirit of the era: “hard work and selfless dedication.” Both were awarded the title of National Model Worker. In 1975, elder brother - was also elected as a deputy to the Fourth National People's Congress and was warmly received by Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou Enlai. In the spring of 1992, then Secretary of the Henan Provincial Party Committee - hiked up Jianpo Hill to visit the - brothers, personally planted a Chinese scholar tree (later named the “Evergreen Tree”), and spoke highly of their remarkable achievements and spirit of hard work.

Today, - has passed away, and Li Haishui is now 87 years old. But their cause has not come to an end. Li Hongbin, a Pingdingshan Municipal Model Worker, took up the mantle as entrusted by the veteran model workers, embarking on a second round of pioneering efforts on Jianpo Hill. Through land transfer and the use of scientific methods, he afforested barren hills and vigorously developed forestry and fruit industries, animal husbandry, and modern agriculture, quickly achieving outstanding results. The forested land is now valued at 150 million yuan, with strong momentum for further growth. The green relay of two generations on Jianpo Hill spanning over half a century is rare across the nation and deeply moving. In 2001, Jianpo Hill was designated as a Municipal Patriotic Education Base by the Propaganda Department of the Pingdingshan Municipal Committee. In 2007, it was recognized as the third batch of Provincial Patriotic Education Demonstration Bases by the Henan Provincial Propaganda Department.

Forty years ago, because the nationally renowned forestry model workers - and Li Haishui brothers came from here, a wave of learning from the two model workers swept across the country. Forty years later, the new generation of model worker Li Hongbin began a green relay, creating new glories. Currently, Jianpo Hill has gradually developed into a famous distinctive tourist attraction based on a patriotic education demonstration base, themed around “hard work and pioneers of the times,” and aiming to be a “holy land of model workers and a mountain village of flowers and fruits,” establishing a unique brand of model worker culture. At present, the Jianpo Hill Patriotic Education Base includes the Model Workers’ Deeds Exhibition Hall, the Model Workers’ Monument, the Model Workers’ Former Residences, the Model Workers’ Forest, Changchun Pavilion, the Evergreen Tree, and the Guanyintang Great - Memorial Hall, featuring over 20 exhibition boards and display cabinets.

Over the years, the Jianpo Hill Patriotic Education Base has consistently provided free access to people from all walks of life and to youths for visits and learning, offering various conveniences for patriotic education. It has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the country free of charge, playing a significant educational role and yielding notable social benefits.

Currently, Jianpo Hill is actively implementing the construction of a “One Zone and Four Parks” project, themed around a Provincial Patriotic Education Demonstration Base and Red Tourism Scenic Area, a Model Workers’ Spirit Exhibition Park, an Ecological Agriculture Demonstration Park, a Rare Forestry and Fruit Sightseeing and Picking Park, and an Ecological Breeding Park.
