Former Residence and Tomb of Bai Lang

The Former Residence and Tomb of Bai Lang is a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

Bai Lang’s tomb is located west of Daliu Village in Shilong District, on the sunny side of Guanzhuang North Hill. Bai Lang (1873–1914), courtesy name Mingxin, was born into a peasant family. In October 1911, he led an uprising. In April 1912, he captured Yuxian County and put forward the slogan "Fight the Rich to Aid the Poor," with his rebel army growing to over 6,000 members. To support Sun Yat-sen’s campaign against Yuan Shikai, the rebels raised the banner of "Support Han and Overthrow Yuan," fighting across five provinces for four years. In August 1914, they returned to Henan but were surrounded by government troops. Bai Lang was killed while breaking through the encirclement. His followers buried his body under a pile of rocks at Hulang Ridge, but due to betrayal, a commander from the Yi Army exhumed the body and cut off the head. To protect the remains, his men secretly moved the burial site to the west of Daliu Village and north of Guanzhuang, where the uprising began. In June 1986, Bai Lang’s tomb was announced as a key cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province.

Core Protection Area: 50 meters east, west, south, and north from the edge of the tomb mound.

General Protection Area: An additional 50 meters beyond the boundary of the core protection area.

A leader of peasant uprisings in the early Republican period. Courtesy name Mingxin. From Baofeng, Henan. Born into a farming family. He was once imprisoned after being victimized by landlords. After the Wuchang Uprising of the 1911 Revolution, he organized local peasants to resist government oppression. In the winter of 1912, he gathered several thousand followers. In May 1913, calling for "Fighting the Rich to Aid the Poor," he led forces into the mountainous areas of Suixian in northern Hubei, battling along the Henan-Hubei border. In September of the same year, he captured Zaoyang and other places, defeating Beiyang troops under Wang Zhan yuan and Duan Zhigui.
