“A World Apart” Stone Inscription

“A World Apart” Stone Inscription is located on a rock at the summit of Beifeng Peak in Chaya Mountain, Suiping County, inscribed by Yan Zhenqing, a calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty. Historical records indicate that in the first year of the Xingyuan era during the reign of Emperor Dezong of Tang (784 AD), the veteran statesman Yan Zhenqing, undaunted by danger, was ordered to travel to Cai Prefecture (modern-day Runan) to persuade rebel forces to surrender. He was placed under house arrest (restricted to a designated area), and one day, while at the northern peak of Chaya Mountain, Yan was so moved by the rugged rocks and lush mountain scenery that he felt a profound sense of peace. It was here that he wrote the bold and majestic characters “A World Apart,” expressing his love for the beautiful landscapes of his homeland and his hope for national unification. Later, these calligraphic works were engraved on the stone cliff, becoming a striking scenic highlight.
