Site of Zhongwang Village

The Site of Zhongwang Village is a cultural heritage protection unit of Henan Province.

The Site of Zhongwang Village is located approximately 45 li southwest of Suiping County and about 150 meters south of Zhongwang Village in Wencheng Township. The site lies on two high terraces, one to the north and one to the south, and is situated 500 meters south of the Xiao Huanghe (Little Yellow River).

Both terraces of the site extend from east to west, are offset from north to south, and are connected on the western side. The southern terrace is about 320 meters long from east to west, 200 meters wide from north to south, and about 7 meters high.

Through multiple surveys and explorations, it has been found that the site has relatively rich cultural layers, with depths ranging between 2 to 4 meters. On the northern slope of the southern terrace, there are large amounts of red-fired pottery fragments, including duck-billed and flat-chisel-shaped tripod legs. The pottery shards found at the site are predominantly red pottery, followed by gray pottery. The decorative patterns are mainly plain, though some feature cord and basketry impressions. Artifacts discovered include sand-tempered pottery, tripod bowls, gray clay ring-footed vessels, and li-tripod feet. Local farmers frequently find polished stone arrowheads while plowing their fields. Based on differences in the shapes, materials, colors, and decorative patterns of the collected samples, the artifacts can be roughly categorized into those from the Yangshao Culture and those from the Longshan Culture. In June 2006, the Site of Zhongwang Village was designated as part of the fourth batch of cultural heritage protection units by the People's Government of Henan Province.
