Xinyang Beihu Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area.

The Central Plains Water Paradise, a Leisure Destination in Henan & Hubei, and an Urban Park of Xinyang — the Beihu Scenic Area in Yangshan New District is located 1.5 kilometers north of the Xinyang Administrative Center. It is a national medium-sized Type II reservoir, covering a water area of 2,300 mu, with a total vacation and leisure area of 30.6 square kilometers. It administers four villages: Cangfang, Gugang, Shizigang, and Zhouwan (originally four villages under the jurisdiction of Pengjiawan Township), with a total population of 7,109 and a total area of 30.61 square kilometers.

The area has a subtropical monsoon humid climate, with an average annual temperature of 15.1°C and an average frost-free period of 221 days per year. The surrounding area of the lake features planted forests and natural secondary forests dominated by pine trees, scholar trees, wild peaches, and oaks, with a forest and grass coverage rate of up to 98%. The air quality exceeds the national first-class standard, making it a true natural “oxygen bar.” The area is often frequented by wildlife, serving as a “paradise” for wild animals. It preserves unique transitional zone biological communities and acts as a “gene bank” for flora and fauna from both northern and southern regions. The scenic area produces abundant local specialties such as tea, chestnuts, and pomegranates, along with over 30 species of economic fish including bighead carp, silver carp, and black carp. It is also home to more than 30 species of wildlife such as egrets, yellow goats, wild boars, and white-eared pheasants. It serves as an “experience park” for eco-agriculture and an “observation park” for wildlife. This is a comprehensive leisure and vacation scenic area primarily focused on sightseeing, experience activities, sports and fitness, recuperation and vacation, and business conferences.
