Banqiao boasts a wide variety of delicious food, and netizens have been sharing their favorite lu rou fan (braised pork rice) spots in discussion forums. Some popular choices includeEr Jie Mian Dan on Section 2 of Shuangshi Road,Xin Dading (also known as Xin Li Quan) on Siwei Road, the lu rou fan from Xianggu Meat Porridge on Zhongshan Road, the one from Da Wan Gong Dang Gui Lamb Soup, and Ah Yi’s Lu Rou Fanon Yumin Street. Some of these are even breakfast-only specials.
Er Jie Mian Dan
Er Jie Mian Dan is a hidden gem tucked away in an alley along Section 2 of Shuangshi Road in Banqiao, serving up tasty lu rou fan. The bowl presentation is relatively refined and appetizing. The lu rou fan comes with a slice of pickled radish that adds a tangy and salty flavor to complement the meal. Compared to other versions, this shop’s lu rou fan is quite distinctive. The pork has a darker hue, and for a woman, it can be polished off in about five bites. Its slightly sticky, gelatinous texture leaves a lingering fragrance.

Xin Dading (Xin Li Quan) Meat Ball Soup
Located on Siwei Road in Banqiao, Xin Dading (also called Xin Li Quan) is primarily known for its meat ball soup rather than lu rou fan. However, generous chunks of braised pork are piled atop white rice, making for a very eye-catching dish. Blogger Xiao Hu describes it as a lighter-colored lu rou fan: “Xin Dading doesn’t braise the pork together with the sauce, but cooks the pork separately in its own pot, which is why the topping on this ‘lu rou fan’ is somewhat lighter in flavor.” In terms of taste, though, it gets better with every bite. It may not look particularly flavorful or appetizing at first glance, but it’s one of those “hidden gems” that grows on you the more you eat.

Zhongshan Road Section 2, Banqiao – Xianggu Meat Porridge
Xianggu Meat Porridge and lu rou fan are the signature dishes here. Aside from these two main offerings, the various side dishes available are also quite delicious. Their signature lu rou fan is a type of shiny, Q-textured southern-style braised pork rice, with a good ratio of fat to lean. It isn’t too oily but still has a rich, gelatinous feel. The well-proportioned lu rou is mixed with glossy rice grains that burst with flavor in every bite. Pairing it with crispy sweet-savory red braised pork, chicken rolls, and fried tofu makes for a perfect combination.

Da Wan Gong Dang Gui Lamb Soup
Da Wan Gong Dang Gui Lamb Soup is located on Siwei Road in Banqiao. Its specialty lies in its deeply colored lu rou sauce, with pork that is mostly fatty—making it a hit among those who love fatty meat. The pork is stewed until it’s soft and tender, and it pairs best when ordered with a bowl of skin-on lamb soup and lu rou fan.
