Xinyang Museum is a large-scale cultural welfare project vigorously built by the Xinyang Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government. Construction began in April 2008, and it officially opened to the public free of charge on September 8, 2010, becoming a landmark public cultural facility in Xinyang. Covering an area of 51 mu, the museum has a total floor space of nearly 30,000 square meters, including an exhibition area of nearly 10,000 square meters. It currently houses nearly 20,000 sets of collections, including bronzeware, gold and silverware, jade artifacts, stoneware, ceramics, lacquered woodware, and plant and animal fossils, among which over 2,000 sets are classified as third-grade relics or above. The museum’s collection of bronzeware is particularly renowned and has received widespread acclaim from all sectors of society.

In the nearly four years since its opening, Xinyang Museum has welcomed over 1.18 million visitors, including 140,000 minors and 250,000 young university students. A total of 33 temporary exhibitions have been held, with peak daily visitor numbers exceeding 5,000. Additionally, the museum has hosted over 90 foreign delegation visits. It offers a brand-new cultural experience and spiritual enjoyment to people from all walks of life and has become a showcase for promoting “Livable Xinyang.”

Xinyang Museum features seven permanent exhibition halls, themed around “Hometown by the Huai River – A Journey Through Xinyang’s History and Culture.” Arranged chronologically along the historical development of southern Henan, the exhibits are presented through six major sections: Ancient Homeland, Lords of the Huai Region, Royal Splendor of Chu, Ancestral Roots of the World, Tea Aroma in the Heavens, and the Charm of Central Plains and Chu Culture. These sections comprehensively and spatially showcase the profound cultural heritage of Xinyang. The museum also includes a special temporary exhibition hall, where large-scale domestic and international special exhibitions can be held periodically, in addition to its permanent displays and thematic exhibitions of its collections. The museum has a lecture hall that can accommodate nearly 200 people, equipped with top-tier facilities suitable for academic exchange activities. The completion of Xinyang Museum fully meets the functional needs of museum exhibitions, collection management, academic research, cultural relic preservation and restoration, and social education. It is the largest comprehensive public cultural institution in the Xinyang region integrating collection, preservation, research, exhibition, and education, as well as a window for international cultural exchange.

With its creative cultural vision, Xinyang Museum expands new cultural spaces for the city. It serves as a vital driving force in cultivating the city’s cultural character, elevating its cultural taste, and shaping its soul. It functions as a multifunctional urban reception hall that combines collection display, science education, cultural exchange, and tourism leisure.

Located in Yangshan New District, Xinyang Museum sits adjacent to Baihuayuan Park to the east. Its establishment and opening embody the strategic vision of city administrators, the dedication and wisdom of its builders, and the dreams and aspirations of the citizens.
