Sunzhai Site

The Sunzhai Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Henan Province.

The Sunzhai Site is located in Sunzhai Village Group, Kongzhuang Village, Ganan Office, Pingqiao District, Xinyang City, Henan Province. The site lies on the left bank of the upper reaches of the Huai River, with the right bank being the confluence of the You River into the Huai — the location described in the "Commentary on the Water Classic · Huai River" as "the Huai River flows eastward, joined by the You River." The site mainly consists of two terraces, one in the southeast and the other in the northwest, both about 2 meters higher than the surrounding area. The southeast terrace is oval-shaped, measuring approximately 182 to 284 meters from east to west and 152 to 210 meters from north to south, covering an area of around 52,000 square meters. The northwest terrace is nearly square, measuring approximately 84 to 127 meters from east to west and 114 to 120 meters from north to south, covering an area of around 13,000 square meters. Both terraces are surrounded by moats, now repurposed as fishponds, with a path connecting the two. It was designated as part of the fifth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units in 2008.
