Former Site of the Party, Government, and Military Organs of the Eyu Region

The Former Site of the Party, Government, and Military Organs of the Eyu Region is a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province.

In the autumn of 1947, the Liu-Deng Army achieved continuous military victories in the Dabie Mountains. To re-establish the organizational structure of the revolutionary base in the Dabie Mountains, the Party Committee, Administrative Office, and Military Region of the Eyu Region were established in mid-November of that year, governing over 20 counties in the Eyuwan Border Region. Duan Junyi served as the Party Committee Secretary and Military Region Political Commissar, Liu Zihou as the Administrative Office Director, and Wang Shusheng as the Military Region Commander. At the same time, the Eyu Daily was published, and the Eyu Public School was founded, training nearly a thousand cadres for the liberated areas and new regions. The headquarters of the Eyu Region’s Party, government, and military organs, as well as the public school, were located here. For a time, Shangcheng became an important base for our army’s operations in the Central Plains and the capital of the Eyuwan Border Region. Five surviving offices from that period are preserved—hard-roofed, wide-veranda brick-and-tile structures. In 2006, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Henan Province.
