Yuyang Ancient Village

Yuyang Ancient Village is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Henan Province.

Yuyang Ancient Village is located 22 kilometers northwest of Anyang County, under the jurisdiction of Anfeng Township, and currently has a population of over 3,300. Nestled against the Taihang Mountains to the west and bordering the Zhang River to the north, it enjoys a prime location of “mountains at its back and water in front.” In 2002, an archaeological team from the Institute of Archaeology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences conducted a survey in the village and confirmed that it was established during the Yangshao Culture period. Since then, it has continued through the Longshan Culture era, the Lower Qiuyuan period, the Xia, Shang, Western Zhou, Spring and Autumn, Warring States, Qin, Han, Wei-Jin and Northern and Southern Dynasties, Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties, right up to the present day—maintaining continuous habitation for 6,000 years. Evidence of development and evolution across various historical periods can be found here in physical form and traces. Villager Long Zhenshan has, over the past 30-plus years, collected thousands of cultural relics from fields and ditches—ranging from pottery, stone tools, porcelain, shell artifacts, bone tools, coins, and roof tiles from the Yangshao Culture period all the way to the Republican era—showcasing the historical vicissitudes of this lesser-known ancient village in North China. Since 2004, after being featured by China Central Television and other media outlets, Yuyang Ancient Village, which records 6,000 uninterrupted years of Chinese civilization, has become known to a wider audience. In September 2006, the Yuyang Village Site (including Ming and Qing residential buildings) was listed as a Provincial Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the People’s Government of Henan Province.

Anfeng Township: Located at the northernmost tip of Henan Province, Anfeng Township in Anyang County sits along National Highway 107, the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Guofeng Highway, the Zhangnan Main Canal, and the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. It is 15 kilometers from the city center, boasting a superior geographical location, convenient transportation, and abundant water resources. The township covers an administrative area of 79 square kilometers, with 4,639 hectares of arable land, and governs 42 administrative villages and a population of 56,234. In 2004, the township's gross domestic product reached 180.12 million yuan, agricultural output value hit 212 million yuan, and per capita income was 2,900 yuan.
