Shangloupō Kiln Site

The Shangloupō Kiln Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

Shangloupō Kiln Site Song Dynasty Shangloupō Village, Dongshan Village, Shan Ying Town, Anyang County

Located on Shangloupō in Dongshan Village, Shan Ying Town, Anyang County, this kiln site was first established during the Tang Dynasty and ceased production by the end of the Yuan Dynasty. The surface reveals multiple areas of fired earth, scattered with kiln tools and ceramic fragments. The shards are coarse in texture, with thick bodies and dense glazes, featuring simple and unadorned colors. There are also small amounts of beige, purplish-red, and “cracked ice” patterns. Most items were glazed only on the upper half, with uneven glaze application, indicating that it was a folk kiln. This site had a long operational period, large scale, and extremely rich content, making it highly valuable for the study of China’s ceramic craftsmanship. It was designated as one of the first batch of protected cultural heritage sites of Henan Province in 1963.
