Former Site of the Dan'guo Revolutionary Base

The Former Site of the Dan'guo Revolutionary Base is a national AAA-level tourist attraction, a cultural tourism destination, a classic red tourism site, and a patriotic education base.

The Former Site of the Dan'guo Revolutionary Base is located in Dan'guo Village, Shuangmiao Township, Qingfeng County, Henan Province. It includes the revolutionary site of the Central Plains Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, the revolutionary site of the Northern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and the Memorial Hall of the Ji-Lu-Yu Military Region. In September 1944, the Central Plains Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the headquarters of the Ji-Lu-Yu Military Region moved to Dan'guo in Qingfeng County. In March 1945, Deng Xiaoping led the organs of the Northern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee to the Ji-Lu-Yu Border Region and also moved into Dan'guo Village. From the spring of 1945 to October 1946, Political Commissar Deng Xiaoping, Commander Yang Yong, and other comrades lived here for as long as a year. During this time, they not only led famous battles such as the Xishan Campaign and the liberation of Yanggu, Fengqiu, and Yanjin, but also actively mobilized poor farmers in the area to establish peasant governments and led them in struggles for rent and interest reduction, wage increases, and tenancy improvements. They also established a small arms factory here, successfully manufacturing the first artillery piece in the history of our army's military industry — the Type 92 70mm Infantry Gun — making outstanding contributions to the Chinese revolution.

In recent years, Qingfeng County has carried out multiple restorations of the site and built three exhibition areas, eight restored residences, and nineteen exhibition rooms on the original site. Over 2,000 historical materials and revolutionary relics have been collected from across the country, along with more than 400 precious photographs. An over 8,000-square-meter revolutionary site square has also been constructed. Dan'guo Village currently preserves the former sites of the Northern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, the Ji-Lu-Yu Bureau, the headquarters of the Ji-Lu-Yu Military Region, the first arms factory of the military region, and the residences of comrades such as Deng Xiaoping, Huang Jing, Wang Hongkun, Yang Yong, and Cao Lihuai — totaling 23 sites. In August 2004, the Dan'guo Revolutionary Site was named the “Henan Provincial Patriotic Education Demonstration Base,” and in November 2005, it was further designated as a third batch National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base.

Arms Factory Relic – Chen Family Ancestral Hall: Built in a “well” layout, the brick-and-wood structure covers an area of over 20 mu. It houses the machinery used for weapon production at that time. On the east and west sides in front of the main hall are three side rooms each, about eight feet high, which were the machine rooms back then. Further south are three north-facing rooms, over ten feet high, serving as the office of the arms factory. Thirty meters southeast of this building is a well dug in 1945 by the First Arms Factory of the Ji-Lu-Yu Military Region. To the south lies an open space shaded by ancient cypresses and willows, which was the site of the smelting, furnace, and workshop sheds of the arms factory. Walking about 60 meters north along the path to the right of the ancestral hall leads to the former site of the headquarters of the Ji-Lu-Yu Military Region. From September 1944 to September 1945, Deng Xiaoping, then acting secretary of the Northern Bureau, lived here. In the restored residences of Deng Xiaoping, _, Yang Yong, and others, simple daily necessities used by them at the time are preserved, including writing materials, beds, chairs, straw hats, and bathtubs.
