The cultivation of oil tea in Guangfeng County has a long history. In the 32nd year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1906), Jiangxi Province selected Guangfeng oil tea seeds as high-quality varieties. In Huangni'ao Village, Quanbo Town, southeastern Guangfeng County, there are still century-old oil tea trees planted during the Qing Dynasty. In the 33rd year of the Republic of China (1944), the county produced 150 tons of oil tea seeds. In 1978, Guangfeng was listed as one of the oil tea production base counties in Jiangxi Province. Guangfeng oil tea has high seed and oil yield rates, as well as strong resistance to pests and diseases. The production areas are distributed across towns such as Shanxi, Paishan, Shehou, Guancun, Wucun, Danan, Xiaxi, Huzhou, Quanbo, Maocun, Songfeng, Shatian, Tongfan, Lingdi, Wudu, and Hengshan. The fruits produced in the northeastern part of the county are large-seed varieties (Shuangjiangzi, Lidongzi), which are large in size, thick-skinned, small in kernel, with an oil yield between 22%–26%; those in the southeastern part are small-seed varieties (Hanluzi), which are small in size, thin-skinned, large in kernel, with an oil yield between 24%–28%. The annual production of oil tea seeds in the county was: 2,235 tons in 1985, 2,188 tons in 1995, 4,800 tons in 2000, and 4,890 tons in 2002.
