Baoding Military Academy Square

Baoding Military Academy Square is located in the eastern part of Baoding city. It was named after the site of the former Baoding Military Academy. The square covers a total area of 317 mu, with an estimated total investment of 138 million yuan. Its overall planning adopted the winning proposal from Qingdao Landscape Planning and Design Institute, and was designed by the Baoding Landscape Architecture Design Institute, with construction organized by the Baoding Municipal Gardening Bureau. Construction began in April 2001 and was completed in September 2002.

The square fully embodies the people-oriented design philosophy, emphasizing the integration of humans and nature. Against the backdrop of Chinese culture’s reverence for nature, it incorporates the bright and open style of European garden design, along with modern elements such as a large-scale musical fountain, a central sculpture, cultural wall reliefs, and decorative features to create an environment that resonates psychologically with visitors. According to the overall plan, the entire square consists of seven sections: the main entrance plaza, the civic plaza, the historical and cultural plaza, the leisure and entertainment plaza, the western scenic forest belt, the Military Academy Memorial Hall, and the reviewing stand. An underground shopping mall has been built beneath the civic plaza. The entire square serves as a large-scale, open, and modern urban space integrating leisure, sightseeing, performances, and shopping.

The colorful Century Gate at the main entrance plaza resembles a rainbow descending from the sky, symbolizing the dawn of the new century. The civic plaza is primarily designed with hard landscaping to facilitate activities, resting, and social interactions, truly serving as the city’s living room. It features a large-scale combined dry and wet colorful musical fountain with 28 different water patterns. Stretching 200 meters from east to west, the fountain covers an area of over 4,500 square meters and includes a water screen projection system. The central dry fountain’s main jet reaches up to 80 meters high. Symmetrical water fountains on the east and west sides are designed for viewing. The dry fountains on both sides are interactive play fountains, catering to people's desire to interact with water. The eastern side includes the Olympic rings, a time tunnel, and cheerful jumping fountains, while the western side features water-play stepping fountains and a playful maze. Both sides can accommodate over 200 people for interactive play simultaneously.
